Federal Basketball: Pico Football kept the classic

The Dean defeated Ferro 70-64, in the General Pico classic, and reached his ninth consecutive victory. He beat all the rivals in the Division and is excited about going far.

“All Boys beat us well, but I’m confident we can do big things in the championship.” Augusto Rossi (19 points) said it at the Aquiles Regazzoli in Santa Rosa, in the debut of both in the Federal Basketball League. And Esquel’s bodyguard was not mistaken, because Pico is serious business. After that setback in the Pampas capital, Pico won 9 consecutive wins with last night, at the Colosito in the Talleres neighborhood, against Ferro, in a kind of modern domestic classic. It was 70-64, with a great closing after a triple by Facundo Eberhardt with 30 seconds to go.

The game was changing. But always with Pico ahead (he started 8-0 up), as if knowing himself superior, with Agustín Bualó leading, Rossi’s security and confidence so that the transfer of the ball is clean, and Marcelo Piuma’s offensive power, decisive last night but not in the inner zone.

At the end of the opening quarter, Ferro couldn’t find a way to turn off the Dean’s offense, where Del Ponte stood out, perhaps one of the players with the greatest growth since the championship began. That 22-10 end of the first quarter made it clear what was happening on the court.

For the second quarter, Wendebourg proposed attitude and a lot of defense on Rossi, the brain of Pico Football. In this way and without so much clarity, Ferro began to get into the game. Ott in the internal game, Arrebillaga in surprise and Faure with his usual polenta, put Verde back in the game before a packed stadium, like few times.

That final comeback allowed the locals to leave with hopes for the complement, after Pico’s 35-30.

Just started the third quarter, the Dean returned to the origins. Good screens, clarity in the attack and a great Piuma throwing 3 and fighting in the internal zone. That’s what the 2021 MVP came for.

When it looked like PFC was closing early, the Green jumped in again. Piuma himself damaged a poster, Pico received a technician and Ferro was 5 (65-60) with just over a minute to go. But Facundo Eberhardt let go, found his space and with his triple he sentenced history so that the pointer is more pointer than ever in someone else’s house. And it’s OK.
