Feliciano and Verdasco will play the I Open Comunidad de Madrid

El Villa de Madrid Country Club be the scene, from April 11 to 17, of the I Open Community of Madrid, a tournament Challenger ATP category 80, organized by the Madrid Tennis Federation, which aims to recover the spirit of the Madrid Grand Prixwhich was played from 1971 to 1995 and through which players of the stature of Bjorn passed BorgIvn Lendl or Manuel Orantesamong others.

This union between tradition and one of the most important objectives of these tournaments, that of giving development opportunities to the promises of our tennis, is for example symbolized in the presence of Feliciano Lpez and Ferdinand Verdascohistorical of our tennis, along with young people like Alejandro Moro and Michael Ladies.

Juan Luis ‘Tati’ Rascn, president of the Madrid Tennis Federation, valued the creation of the Challenger as an event that “crowns the building” of the international tournament calendar of training of Madrid tennis, which begins in the sub-10 categories. Michael Dazpresident of the Spanish Federation, recalled the importance of these tournaments in the development of young values, since these tournaments are “that intermediate band to be occupied by great players who aspire to be among the top 100. Many of the ones we have now among the best have used these tournaments to get to where they are now.”

The tournament will be dedicated, in this first edition, to Manolo Santana, the best Madrid tennis player of all time. Along with Feliciano, top seed, and Fernando Verdasco, will be present, among others, the Brazilian Thiago Monteirothe German Mats Moraing, the Serbian Nikola Milojevic, the Australian Christopher O’Connell or the Swiss Dominic Stricker.

The I Open Community of Madrid will distribute 45,000 euros in prizes in addition to ‘hospitality’ to the players. Pablo Carabias will be the director of the tournament.
