The establishment of the West Asian Super League (WASL), the continental league for top professional clubs in West Asia, the Gulf, India and Kazakhstan, has been reported by FIBA. 96 matches will be played over seven months in each West Asian Super League season and will be run in parallel with the domestic leagues of 12 countries in the western region of Asia. The champion teams of Kazakhstan and India will participate in the Super League from the final stage.

The West Asian Super League is scheduled to start in November 2022. The top eight teams in the West Asian region will play home/away games for the sub-region title, while the top eight teams in the Gulf region will play in the same format for the Gulf sub-division title. The top three teams from these two sub-regional championships will join the champion teams of India and Kazakhstan to compete in the finals of the West Asian Super League, and the two teams that reach the final of the West Asian Super League Cup will win tickets to the FIBA Asian Champions Cup.
The FIBA Asian Champions Cup winner will then represent the continent in the next FIBA Intercontinental Cup, FIBA’s most important club tournament on the global stage.
