The eighteenth edition of the Ciutat Alaior Tournament turned this weekend into Menorca at the epicenter of grassroots basketball with a concentration of matches not held to date on the island.
62 teams from England, Catalonia, Mallorca, Valencia and Menorca participated in the tournament. This year’s edition featured the participation of ten Bàsquet Manaco teams, with a representation of more than 150 people. Also noteworthy is the participation of twenty-five Catalan teams and the first foreign participation in the tournament with four English teams in all categories. In total, 192 games were played in four days.
The event was very special for the participating teams as it was the first post covid and the sporting atmosphere experienced was very remarkable. The men’s cadet final and the closing ceremony, with more than 2,000 people gathered, experienced a great atmosphere, emotion and quality basketball.
As for the decisive matches, the day began with the title in female children, group B, of the CB Montuïri Mallorcan, who will defeat the German College 31-13. Later, Osona took the victory in the women’s infantile, group A, by beating the England team (38-66). In men’s group A, the English team defeated Joventut de Badalona (50-66), and in men’s group B CB Sineu did not give Bàsquet Manacor (99-41) an option. Meanwhile, in group B of female cadet, JET Terrassa won, defeating CE Diagonal de Mar 37-18.
In the male cadet group B, CB Petra de Mallorca defeated Grup Barna (50-27), and in the male cadet group A, there was Osona’s victory over Cornellà (40-17). And in the male cadet group A, the English team beat Sese de Badalona (51-52).
The clubs that participated this year were: Valencia Bàsquet, Joventut de Badalona, AE Minguella (participating for the 16th time), JET Terrassa, Bàsquet Girona, CB Cornellà, Col·legi Alemany de Barcelona, Sese, Grup Barna, Osona, CB Vic, CE Diagonal Mar , CB Manlleu, CB Esparreguera, Arenys Bàsquet, Bàsquet Manacor (with 10 teams and a representation of more than 150 people), CB Montuïri, CB Sineu, CB Petra, and the Menorcan clubs CB Boscos Ciutadella, CD Alcázar, CB Ciutadella, CB It’s Castell and CB Ponent.
Once again, the arbitration was carried out by the Balearic Basketball Federation and the College of Referees of the Catalan Basketball Federation, who also carried out a training course these days.
