Lewis Hamilton has partnered with Serena Williams to join a consortium that is trying to buy Chelsea Football Club, according to reports.
According to the Sky Newsthe seven-times world champion and the 23 Grand Slam-winning tennis player are said to have pledged £10m each as part of Sir Martin Broughton’s investment team, who is leading the pack looking to buy the London club.
“We can confirm that Lewis has joined Sir Martin Broughton’s proposal,” a Hamilton spokesperson told the news agency. PA.
If Broughton’s proposal succeeds, it would represent Hamilton’s second significant business investment of 2022. In January, the Brit backed delivery startup Zapp as part of a $200 million investment in the company.
Chelsea are currently owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who put the club up for sale on March 2 shortly before having his assets frozen by the British government over his alleged ties to Vladimir Putin.
Abramovich cannot benefit financially from the sale of Chelsea, which needed a special government license to continue operating after sanctions against its owner.
