SANTO DOMINGO.- The Head of Mission of the Dominican Republic delegation that will participate in the first Caribbean Games, traveled this Thursday to the island of Guadalupe to participate in the technical meeting called by the event’s Organizing Committee.
The delegation, headed by Franklin De la Cruz, Chief of Mission, and Miguel Merejo, technical coordinator of the COD, left at noon through the Las Américas José Francisco Peña Gómez International Airport terminal.
De la Cruz pointed out that the meeting, to be held on April 1 and 2 at the Hotel Fleur d’Epee, is intended to report on the progress of the assembly of the Guadalupe 2022 Games.
“The work is progressing and during this weekend we will catch up with reality,” said the Chief of Mission minutes before his departure.
On the work of the formation of the delegation, he assured that they are advanced, especially everything related to the registration of athletes, coaches and technicians.
De la Cruz affirmed that the athletes who compete in the multi-sport event will have the opportunity to measure the level at which they are facing the qualifying events for the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.
The Dominican Republic plans to participate in five of the seven sports disciplines in which it will compete in the first Caribbean Games.
These are: Water sports, in the racing and open water modalities; athletics, judo, 3×3 basketball, as well as cycling in the track and route modalities.
This will be the first edition of these games promoted by the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC).
