Willem II held out for more than an hour in De Kuip on Saturday, but eventually had to bow to Feyenoord. Trainer Kevin Hofland found the opponent further, especially in a physical sense.
According to Hofland, Willem II has the necessary ‘small, slender, young boys’. “I didn’t make that six-foot-tall boys in a week,” he winks in conversation with ESPN. “And that will not be in the future either. But it is about smartness and business play. And we are bluffed at certain times.”
Hofland also called on old-timer Miquel Nelom, who, partly due to injuries, has barely been able to make minutes in the past one and a half years. “I started with him in that position (left back, ed.) because of his experience, at the ball. Anyway, he gave in his first three balls, then he got into his game a little better. He did everything he could, but suffered from an injury, so we made the choice to take him out at half-time.”
