Will the empire of Ineos get even bigger?
In addition to, among other things, a cycling team, interests in the F1 team of Mercedes and football clubs OGC Nice and Lausanne-Sport, the English top club Chelsea seems to be the new crown jewel.
Jim Ratcliffe, strong man behind the British chemical giant, announced that he has made a bid of more than 5 billion euros. The bulk to get their hands on the club, plus a significant sum to be invested in the squad and infrastructure over the next ten years.
That offer is the most lucrative to date. The three American interested parties (consortiums led by Martin Broughton, Todd Boehly and Steve Pagliuca) therefore see a significant competitor emerging. They have already been asked to increase the bids by 500 million euros.
“We are the only British bid,” Radcliffe said in his candidacy. “Our plan is simple: to build a very nice club in London, which suits this city. We don’t want to chase profit.”
Due to the financial and local aspect, Ineos immediately seems to be the biggest contender to effectively bring in Chelsea.
To be continued.
