In Friuli Venezia Giulia a championship dedicated to minibaseball, minisoftball, or children aged 5 to 8, had never been organized. Since its inauguration, the FIBS Friuli Venezia Giulia regional committee has strongly focused on the creation of an activity linked to the very young sector and finally, on 25 April 2022, the minibaseball championship saw the light.
Eight is the magic number: 8 participating teams, more than 80 children divided into 4 fields, enthusiastic parents-fans and an impeccable organization were the ingredients of the first of 8 episodes of this series, which will see the 8 participating companies become organizers, one at a time, of as many concentrations in their playing fields.
The Staranzano Ducks club kicked off the dances and wanted to combine the first day of what we can define as the mini-championship with the memory of Renato Deffendi, dedicating the historic memorial of 25 April to him. The mayor Riccardo Marchesan, the omnipresent landlord and enthusiastic supporter of the Ducks company, also took part in the awards ceremony.
“It was a dream to be able to see these children beat, run, have fun and learn not only to play, but to be a team” declared, speaking after all the authorities present, the president of the FIBS Friuli Venezia Giulia regional committee Andrea Andrian “And I am very happy that all this began in Staranzano, where I spent many years of my competitive career. But this is only the beginning: another 7 days like these await us, between now and September, where we will try to make the playful and didactic experience more and more interesting for children “.
The synergy with the clubs was fundamental in the construction process of the championship: presidents and collaborators immediately showed interest in the project and are still collaborating with the regional committee to constantly improve, evaluating organization, logistics and calendars, always with an eye on the undisputed protagonists: children. Friuli Venezia Giulia is a land where baseball and softball have been rooted for many years. This mini-championship, this hopeful experiment, is filling that little hole that has been empty for too long. The new, small seedlings have been planted in fertile soil, now we just have to wait for them to grow.
