Major League Baseball celebrates the traditional Jackie Robinson Day Friday, April 15, which marks the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s debut in the Majors with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

The MLB has organized some events in New York related to the Play Ball program. In the morning, in the Pedestrian Plaza in Time Square, 5 institutes from the 5 different districts of New York will give life to an exhibition tournament that will involve at least 50 children.

During the day the number 42 will also be shown on the display of the Empire State Building and the event will be attended by former players who have made the history of the discipline in various guises such as Ken Griffey Jr., Mariano Rivera, Joe Torre, Willie Randolph and Meta Robinson (grandson of Jackie and Rachel Robinson).

As per tradition, all players involved in Jackie Robinson Day will wear the number 42 kit to honor Jackie Robinson’s name. Widow Rachel will be present in the stands of the game between Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds.
