Jordan Spieth always resurrects glory Sundays

Easter Sunday, feast of 1958 in which Arnold Palmer won his first Augusta Masters, and Jimmy Demaret, two jackets earlier, was happy again for Jordan Spieth, winner of the RBC Heritage. The Texan claimed victory in Hilton Head a year after winning the Valero Texas Open on another glorious Sunday (April 4), the last of the 13 titles that adorn his palm, all on the PGA Tour. Next year, the most important date in Christianity will coincide with the last day of the 2023 Masters.

“It’s fantastic, more so after failing the cut last week in the Masters, which is my favorite tournament,” said Spieth. He signed 66 strokes and reached 13 under par, a figure only reached by Patrick Cantlay, the golfer who aspired to second place in the world ranking and who is now fourth, just behind by Jon Rahm Shane Lowry and Harold Varner III tried to reach -13 without success in a last attempt. (see full results) which reduced the pulse to two contenders.

In the tiebreaker, in the frank 18 (par 4) in which the second shot to the green is the one that decides the fate of the hole, both fell into the bunker. Spieth’s ball was perfect, although a little further away; Cantlay’s buried in the classic ‘fried egg’.

This one, with a balance in the tiebreakers of three victories and three losses after falling to Spieth, he scrambled it out 50 feet from the hole. The putt didn’t even come close to the hole. A minute earlier, Jordan, who returns to the world top 10, had left her a foot from the hole. “I’m especially excited because it’s the first tournament I’ve won as a father,” he recalled, while his wife, Annie, tried to comfort Sammy’s tears, just five months old, on the green.

It is Jordan’s fifth win in a playoff, and three losses, on the PGA Tour. Only Tiger Woods (11 wins), Mickelson and Singh (8) and Sergio García and Fred Couples (6) have added more titles in playoffs on the great world golf circuit.
