Ex-Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge protects PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi. He’s doing a good job in Paris.

Bayern’s ex-CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge cannot understand the ongoing criticism of PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi. According to the 66-year-old, the sheikh is doing a good job with the Parisians.

Al-Khelaifi should “under no circumstances” vacate his post at the top French club, Rummenigge said in an interview with the The Team: “Where was PSG before Nasser?” The Qatari businessman led Paris Saint-Germain from insignificance to one of the top clubs in Europe.

Rummenigge advises PSG to be patient

Al-Khelaifi was recently criticized for visiting the referee’s cabin after the Champions League game against Real Madrid. There the 48-year-old and PSG sports director Leandro is said to have tried to gain access to referee Danny Makkelie’s locker room. In the UEFA report, “aggressive behavior” was attested to both.

Even if Rummenigge would have solved the situation differently in his place, he can understand Al-Khelaifi’s reaction. “I was in Nasser’s place and there’s no point in losing your nerve. Nasser is someone who is rational and in control. He’s always friendly, attentive, but football is a lot of emotions,” said Rummenigge: “Next Every time I see him, I advise him not to go to the referee’s booth.”

He recommended that the French club remain “patient” after the early Champions League exit. “PSG have to understand that it’s impossible to win the Champions League overnight,” said Rummenigge.
