Kareem Abdul-Jabbar clearly has a grudge against LeBron James. The leading scorer in NBA history never hesitates to volley the King when he does something that he dislikes or that he considers dangerous to the millions of people who adore him. Lately, Jabbar has been lashing out at the icon over vaccination and LeBron’s somewhat mocking tweets. He was also seen particularly outraged that James did the Big Balls Dance, which he deemed disrespectful and stupid.
This time, no need for a sharp note on his site, as he does so often. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar took advantage of the awarding of the NBA’s best player-citizen trophy to Carmelo Anthony to point the finger at LeBron James, in response to a question about him.
“LeBron James should be ashamed of some of the things he’s done. Even on some of the great things he’s done, he still gets to be between two chairs… It’s hard for me to accept the fact that he takes different points of view on everything. It is difficult to know where he is, you have to constantly check.
I admire things he’s done, like sending a whole school to college. It’s amazing and it shows that he can use his wallet by caring about people. You have to give him that credit and I’m not blaming him for that. It’s just that there are things he should be ashamed of.
I think he should be careful with some of the things I mentioned that really affect the African-American community. That’s all I ask of him,” he told reporters in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Melo even offered to play matchmaker for the two legends to meet and set things straight. “KAJ” is in if LeBron finds the time.
“It’s a conversation they need to have between black men. In our community, these tough conversations need to happen. If Kareem and Bron want to sit down and talk, I think that’s important.”
Quickly alerted to the shocked and outraged reactions, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar backpedaled a few hours later to qualify his remarks and apologize.
“I was asked a question by a reporter about LeBron James and I regret that my response took on such proportions. For years, I have expressed my admiration and deep respect for LeBron as a community leader and athlete. hasn’t changed and it never will.”
A small discussion for two, televised, to smoke the pipe of peace? We are takers.
