LIGUE 1 – Reduced to 10, the Girondins de Bordeaux draw a draw on the lawn of Lille (0-0)

It’s a small step for Lille, but a big step for Bordeaux. Held in check on their lawn at Pierre-Mauroy, LOSC lost two points against Girondins reduced to ten in the first period and outnumbered for more than an hour of play (0-0). A frustrating result for Dogues in the race for European qualification and finally glued to sixth place in Ligue 1. For Bordeaux, this goalless draw was a good dose of defensive effort and still leaves hope for the maintenance.

Better late than never. On the 30th day of Ligue 1 2021/2022, Bordeaux did not concede a goal in a league match for the first time this season. A great performance for David Guion’s men, united despite a very difficult sporting context to manage internally. From the start of the match, the bottom of the championship suffered on a strike from Burak Yilmaz diverted by Gaëtan Poussin, holder in the goal in place of a Benoît Costil left on the bench (3rd).

In the process, Amadou Onana missed his volley and the ball spun in six meters. Too bad for LOSC, since this is Lille’s only real goal opportunity in the first period. The other event of the first act was the exclusion of Enock Kwateng for two rough interventions on Jonathan Bamba (21st, 35th).

Post and offside

A severe but rather symptomatic decision from Bordeaux, too used to defending their goal at first rather than trying to score. That said, the exclusion did not put the club in the scapular in an insoluble problem. As a good tactician, Guion brought in Hwang Ui-jo in place of Alberth Elis to make his 4-4-1 even more compact and focused on the counter-attack.

In fact, this did not lead to any goalscoring opportunity for Bordeaux. But it also allowed the double defensive curtain of Aquitaine to remain impervious to northern offensives. Opposite, Lille stumbled on the post by Bamba (51st) and the offside rule: three times, the locals thought of opening the scoring by Onana (61st, 92nd) or Tiago Djalo (64th). But three times the flag was raised to indicate the illegality of the action. Still dead last in Ligue 1 at the final whistle, Bordeaux has however been able to resist and Lille could perhaps bite their fingers at the end of the season.
