LPGA: Jennifer Kupcho’s lead survives despite a 74 in the final round

Jennifer Kupcho had a tough final round turning in a 74 card, but her six-shot lead to open the fourth round was enough to earn her the first major of the season, the Chevron Championship.

Kupcho had a rollercoaster round with seven bogeys, five birdies and six pars.

She could feel the American Jessica Korda approaching dangerously as the day progressed. Korda, who started the final round in third place, seven shots off the lead, fired a 69 to come within two shots of Kupcho for second place.

Canada’s Brooke Hendersen turned in a 72 and slipped a few spots to finish the tournament tied for 13th.

Defending champion Patty Tavatanakit also played par. She finished the tournament ranked fourth with a cumulative ten-under par.
