TIMNAS Malaysia U-23 lost 1-2 to Timor Leste in a test match ahead of the 2021 SEA Games. Suddenly, the Malaysian people were furious over this result.
The Young Tiger Squad – the nickname for the U-23 Malaysia National Team – is targeted to win a gold medal at the 2021 SEA Games which will be held in Vietnam on 6-22 May 2022. This team prepared by coach Brad Maloney will also appear at the 2022 U-23 Asian Cup which will be held in Uzbekistan on 1 -19 June 2022.
In order to create a strong chemistry, Brad Maloney made a bold move. The Australian coach did not bring three senior players aka footballers over 23 years of age to perform at the 2021 SEA Games.
In fact, each team is allowed to bring three senior players to the 2021 SEA Games. Although it does not bring senior players, Malaysia’s Menpora Ahmad Faizal is optimistic that the U-23 Malaysian national team can win the 2021 SEA Games gold medal.
“Although the preparation of the U-23 team is a little late, but the ability of the players I think is not random. We are still a respected team in Southeast Asia. So, I am very confident that we will give the best match, ”said Ahmad Faizal quoted from Utusan Malaysia a few days ago.
However, the unexpected result was received by the Malaysian U-23 National Team last night. Facing Timor Leste without Paulo Gali Freitas, they lost 1-2. The Malaysian public also attacked the Malaysian Football Federation (FAM) and the Malaysian U-23 National Team.
“Come on again. I hope you don’t add more jokes like this, the SEA Games are close,” wrote the account @lukrizqi commenting on the defeat of the Malaysian national team on the FAM Twitter account, @FAM_Malaysia.
“I hereby withdraw my support from Malaysia at the 2021 SEA Games,” wrote the @fikeriy account.
“Shame on the country. Just stop playing ball. Wasted my money on these people. With Timor Leste losing, it’s a waste of money,” continued the @HASIF225 account.
Improvements must be made to the Malaysia U-23 National Team, considering that the 2021 SEA Games are getting closer. The plan is that the Malaysia U-23 national team will face Thailand in the opening match of Group B on Saturday, May 7, 2022.
