Mercato: Real’s plan to get rid of Hazard

At the end of another complicated season for Eden Hazard, Real Madrid clearly no longer counts on the winger but plans to loan him next season to try to revive him, before selling him in 2023.

Hazard available on loan this summer?

Like the first two, Eden Hazard’s third season at Real Madrid turned into a fiasco. Although injuries finally left him almost alone, the 31-year-old winger had to settle for 22 appearances in all competitions (for one goal).

The Belgian did not manage to convince Carlo Ancelotti who preferred an in-form Vinicius Junior to him, but also Rodrygo, Marco Asensio and even, occasionally, Gareth Bale.

Real no longer count on Hazard

Clearly, the passage of the Red Devil, bought for 115 million euros in 2019, is turning the industrial accident and the Casa Blanca, tired of waiting for an awakening that may never happen, has only an idea in mind: to limit the breakage by separating from his flop. To achieve this, the Merengues have devised a strategy unveiled on Monday by the newspaper AS.

A two-stage fuse

Considering that the former Lille player will not play again this season following the recent surgery to remove his titanium plate from his right ankle, the La Liga leader is advocating patience, with a two-step plan. The first part is to loan Hazard out next summer. The native of La Louvire, who rejected an offer from Newcastle this winter, will not accept anything and will demand a club of a certain standing. But, with the World Cup approaching and the need for the player to accumulate more playing time, Real are hopeful of convincing their flop to accept this solution and find a club willing to take on part of his salary (€15 million net per year).

The second part of the plan is to sell Hazard on his return from loan, in the summer of 2023, when he will, if all goes well, be back to a better level, one year from the end of his contract. It is clear that the club chaired by Florentino Prez will not recover its initial stake, or even half, but a good sale would help the pill pass. Provided that the winger manages to revive by then…
