There are 40 players from Panama, Colombia, Curaçao and Nicaragua, who will be participating in a “show case” or exhibition at the Rod Carew. Representatives of the 30 MLB organizations will be observing and evaluating the Panamanian athletes who aspire to fulfill their dream. “The important thing is that this type of activity promotes the opportunity for some young people to get a long-awaited signature,” said Pedro Meilán, prosecutor and spokesman for the federation. Meilán added that the presence of Kin Ng, MLB Vice President of Operations, has also been used to discuss the federation’s plan to develop baseball at the school level.
Regarding the tests that will be carried out today and tomorrow, Mrs. Ng stressed that Panama was chosen for its history in terms of baseball discipline. “Panama has a great history in terms of baseball with players of the stature of Rod Carew, Mariano Rivera and Carlos Lee, among others,” she stressed.
