From Go Home Favorite to Secret Favorite!
The Boston Celtics are currently the hottest team in the NBA. The Celts lost only three of their last 16 games and improved to third place in the Eastern Conference behind Miami and Milwaukee. The traditional team from the north-east of the USA has long been one of the extended circle of title favorites this NBA season.
Right in the middle: the German Daniel Theis (29).
The 2.04m giant from Salzgitter/Lower Saxony returned to Boston from the Houston Rockets in February, where he had already played from 2017 to 2021.
Since regular center Robert Williams was injured in mid-March, Theis has been a regular starter again, having almost exclusively come off the bench since returning from Texas.
In the easy 144:102 against Washington on Sunday evening German time, Theis also freaked out the hall with a crashing dunk.
In the middle of the third quarter, the national player is served on the basket, spirals into the air and hammers the ball into the basket with a bang. The 18,624 fans in Boston’s TD Garden spin freely, celebrating Theis’s successful move.
Shortly thereafter, even the wave spills through the audience – completely unusual for US indoor sports.
In total, the center scores six points and gets two rebounds. The Celtics’ best man is Jaylen Brown with 32 points, who even outshines Boston’s superstar Jayson Tatum (22 points).
At the end of the game there are even standing ovations from the fans for Theis and the Celtics.
In Washington, who no longer have a chance of making the play-offs, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (17 points) defends against the horror bankruptcy.
