NBA fines Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler $15,000 for ‘obscene gesture’

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat were both fined $15,000 for what the NBA called a ‘lewd act’ committed by Butler in the Heat’s Game 5 final win over the Atlanta Hawks 97 -94, the league announced Thursday.

Late in the second quarter, amid a 10-0 personal run by Heat guard Max Strus, Butler stood on the sidelines and did a thrusting motion with his hips to celebrate the success of his teammate. The Heat later posted a video of Butler’s reaction to their social media account.

Butler, whose 30.5 ppg average is second-best in the league in the playoffs, missed Game 5 with inflammation in his right knee.

The winner of the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors first-round series will face Miami in the second round of the playoffs.
