Judokas back on the mat

After 2 years of Corona with all the associated training failures, the Mühlhausen judokas went back to the competition mats for the first time on Saturday, April 9th. 2 girls and a boy wanted to see what their status was like on the Bavarian judo stand. Until Monday it was still clear that Ronja Stegmeyer in the U13 age group and Maresa Mößler and her twin brother Simon in the U11 age group should travel to Passau in Lower Bavaria. Unfortunately, Corona caught 11-year-old Ronja Stegmeyer, so she had to cancel on Tuesday. That was doubly a pity, since the girl trains at the high-performance base in Oberpfalz in Kümmersbruck and at the Bavarian state base in Altdorf, hoping to make it into the Bayer selection. So on Saturday we “only” went to Passau with Maresa and Simon Mößler, their home trainer Mathias Brinkmann, their parents and the head of the Judo department and youth department of the Upper Palatinate at 7:30 a.m. A lot more than 100 children from all over Bavaria had registered for the first state-wide U11 tournament, so that the organizer had to impose a start stop on 102 starters in this age group. Almost all of the performance-oriented clubs in Bavaria, including 7 clubs from the Upper Palatinate, were represented.
For Maresa and Simon it was the first competition in their young judo life. Coach Mathias Brinkmann also had his hands full calming the nervousness before the first fight, and not just among the children. The stated goal for the two was not to miss a fight and to get all fights to the full time. The two then managed that extremely well, so that in the end it was said: double bronze for the Twins. With this excellent result, the spell was broken and the course was set for the next competitions – but then with the entire club.
