SEATTLE — Russell Wilson hopes Sunday’s game won’t be his last at home at Lumen Field as quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks.
The Seahawks (5-10) will host the Detroit Lions (2-12-1) and wrap up their disappointing road season against the Arizona Cardinals.
The day before, Bobby Wagner admitted that he was wondering if he would stay with the Seahawks after the season, in part because of his high salary. Wilson and Wagner have been key players for the Seahawks since they were both drafted in 2012, helping the Seahawks win the Super Bowl in 2014 and once again reach the Super Bowl in February 2015.
Wilson’s comment about his possible last game at Lumen Field as a Seahawks member came at the end of a long response about his goal of winning three more Super Bowls. He was asked if he could do the whole thing with the Seahawks.
“I hope so,” he admitted. Obviously, we can’t do it this year by not qualifying for the playoffs. It takes a lot of effort, it takes a lot of things, it takes several pieces to the puzzle and I believe we have a significant number of those pieces. It’s been a difficult season. »
Wilson listed a few hurdles the Seahawks have faced this season – as the team suffered at least 10 losses for the first time since 2009 – including Jamal Adams’ injury, absences due to COVID-19 and their numerous heartbreaking defeats in close matches. He didn’t mention a broken finger that sidelined him for three games and likely limited his performance since returning to Week 10.
“Like I said, I’m focusing on today. The Lions have a very good football team that wants to win. Their record doesn’t show it, but they’ve been playing good football, especially in the last four weeks. This team fights constantly and they have beaten good teams with wins over the Cardinals and the Vikings,” Wilson commented.
“Personally, I hope this isn’t my last game with the Seahawks, but at the same time, I know it won’t be my last game in the NFL. So I focus on today only, I want to improve today. It’s my aim. I like the city. I like the team guys. We have to make sure we get better, that’s all that matters. »
Wilson’s future has been in question since he showed some signs of frustration with the organization last February. The Seahawks had been in talks about a possible trade with the Bears afterwards.
Wilson has previously questioned the Seahawks’ efforts to surround him well. He mentioned in particular that his offensive line was tired of being constantly hit.
