Olympic-level training carried out by members of Judo CDMX, heading to the Macro Regional tournament

Members of the Judo Association of Mexico City (Judo CDMX) had a great training, which could be considered Olympic level, thanks to the fact that Prisca Awiti Alcaraz, Mexico’s representative at the last Tokyo Olympics, attended one of the two sessions. 2020.

The practices were part of the preparation of the Children’s, Youth and Senior teams for the next Macro Regional Judo tournament, heading for the CONADE 2022 National Games, and were held last weekend in two different venues, simultaneously.

This decision is intended to better serve each of the teams and their practice, according to their category and particular needs, so the training sessions were divided into the “Hermanos Galeana” Sports Dojo, in the Gustavo A. Madero, and in the Dojo Judotecnia of the Azcapotzalco Mayor’s Office.

In both cases, the objective was to carry out the study of errors, techniques, strategies and situations, based on the experiences of past tournaments, in order to propose new tactics for the next Judo Regional Macro that will take place on the 23rd and 24th. April in Pachuca, Hidalgo.

In this way, in the first of the venues, the coaches responsible for the Children’s team were Sensei Alondra Pérez and Javier Torres, who from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. gave a special session for the development of speed, reaction and agility of movements.

Likewise, another of the relevant parts was that the practitioners had the awareness and sensitivity for defense, attack and counterattack, as well as knowing and taking advantage of each space on the tatami.

Another point was perceiving and using certain situations to apply the strategies and actions mentioned above.

For their part, members of the Youth and Senior Judo CDMX teams that met at the Dojo Judotecnia, began the practice at 10:00 a.m., for which they were attended by Sensei Jesús Rosas, Jaime Flores, César Hernández Gómez, Josefina Mondragón, Óscar Rojas and the Olympic athlete Prisca Awiti Alcaraz, recently arrived from an international competition and prior to the national concentration for the next Pan American Judo Championship.

From the beginning, it was envisioned that the training would be of great intensity, for which a warm-up session and special strength and power exercises were held to maximize the results in the application of techniques.

After several related activities, it was passed to the work of floor and standing techniques, where the practitioners remained attentive to each one of the indications.

This approach intensified when Óscar Rojas and Prisca Awiti Alcaraz shared their experience in world competitions, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, on behalf of the athlete.

At this point, the techniques focused especially on the fight on the ground or newaza, as well as the use of certain positions, feet and submission holds.

Another of the tactics was the projection from a standing position, which served to give way to a series of free matches of newaza, and the change of partners for a greater diversity in the action.

After little more than five hours, the training of the Judoka Association of Mexico City came to an end, leaving behind the feeling of having been a high-performance, Olympic-level practice, due to the number and level of coaches and practitioners.
