After Bruno Cantanhede is confirmed to leave the club, Persib will hunt for substitutes to fill the vacant foreign player slots. Former Persikabo striker, Ciro Alves in 1973, has been heavily linked with Persib.
Even the scorer of 20 goals last season has been rumored to Persib since he decided not to extend his contract with the Bogor club on 7 March. Persib Director Teddy Tjahjono did not rule out the possibility that Ciro would join. According to him, all possibilities can happen given the many options available today to choose foreign players.
Persib will not be in a hurry to recruit imported players from outside, especially for players in the attacking sector. Even the coach can open up the possibility of doing so first. “Yes, all (many) foreign players are available. For foreign players, there are many choices out there, so there is no need to rush, there is still time,” said Teddy on Wednesday (6/4/2022).
Teddy further informed that his party is currently focusing on evaluating local players. The hunt for local players is becoming a priority, therefore the management and coaches are moving quickly until they can hook up the two pillars of Persebaya, Rachmat Irianto and Ricky Kambuaya.
“Not yet (negotiations of foreign players), still concentrating on local players. Because foreign players still have many choices and there is still time to choose and select,” explained Teddy.
One foreign player Mohammed Rashid who is in tough negotiations, the management offered a contract extension, but the player has not decided. Rashid’s contract is known to expire when the competition ends. “(Rashid) hasn’t been decided yet,” said Teddy.
