PGA: The leader falters, quadruple equality in the lead

While Ryan Palmer, leader after 36 holes, experienced a descent into hell on Saturday in San Antonio during the Valero Texas Open, four rivals took the lead for the final round.

The Americans Brandt Snedeker (67), Beau Hossler (67) and JJ Spaun (69), as well as the South African Dylan Frittelli (70), indeed share the first place with a cumulative of 206 (-10).

Snedeker is looking for a 10th PGA Tour victory and a first since 2018. Frittelli has only one in his career, while Hossler and Spaun are still looking for a first title in the of the circuit.

Meanwhile, Palmer (77) needed a shot over par five times in that third round. He is currently 21st, at 211 (-5), just like Adam Hadwin (71). The top Canadian in the standings, he had a day full of ups and downs. He had six birdies, but he also committed five bogeys.

Roger Sloan (71) was also rough with no less than four bogeys – and two birdies – on the front nine. However, he took a par shot in the 15th, 16th and 17th pennants to end the day in 48th position, at 214 (-2).

Corey Conners (75) was unable to make up for his six bogeys. He is 63rd, at 216 (N), down 36 places in the standings. It therefore seems very unlikely that he will repeat his feat of 2019, when he triumphed at this event.

Three other Canadians, namely Adam Svensson, Michael Gligic and Nick Taylor, were unable to avoid the cut on Friday.
