Place outside for the Blues

On the occasion of the Bagatir Tournament, the first international meeting of the season organized in Turkey, the French archery team won a medal.

After a long indoor season, it’s time for outdoor competitions. For the French archery team, the first meeting was set in Antalya, Turkey, for the Bagatir Tournament. For this great premiere in 2022, it was the female archers who appeared in the best shape. The women’s recurve team performed well by beating Turkey in the semi-finals (5-1). Defeated by Germany in the final, Les Bleues still left Turkey with silver around their necks. A positive performance in view of the rest of the outdoor season.

Promising performance for Mélodie Richard

Individually, the competition turned out to be more complicated for the French women. Caroline Lopez fell in the first round against Ana Umer. Yet sixth in qualifying, Lauréna Villard took the door in the round of 16, dominated by the Turkish Busramur Coskun Gulnaz. The best individual performance goes to Mélodie Richard. The French had a good run, but ultimately failed in her quest for the bronze medal, beaten by Urska Cavic.

Great first for Guillaume Toucoullet

On the men’s side, the majority of eyes were on Guillaume Toucoullet. The French archer was competing in Turkey in his very first international competition among the able-bodied. Even if his road stopped in the round of 16, the Frenchman welcomes this first positive experience. In this individual competition, two tricolors managed to reach the quarter-finals: Baptiste Addis, dominated by Samet Ak, and Nicolas Bernardi, beaten by Florian Unruh, winner of the competition. By team, the Blues also stopped in the quarter-finals, powerless against Uzbekistan.
