The people from the “Citizens for Zehlendorf” initiative were probably surprised themselves when not only an answer came, but also actions were announced.
“Still nothing happened! Still free travel on sidewalks and green verges! Cycling impossible! No protection for school children! Trees are going down! When will politicians finally act,” they wrote on Twitter, repeatedly pointing out the automotive conditions at the southern elementary school in Zehlendorf.
“I was there a month ago,” City Councilor Urban Aykal (Greens) replied immediately. He is in conversation with his SPD colleague Michael Karnetzki and local residents. A participation workshop is planned for the end of April. “More information coming soon.”
When another Twitter user commented that the new but unprotected bike lane Unter den Eichen would probably be parked up, Aykal quickly and personally commented: “I’m not assuming that will be the case.” That in turn sounds very optimistic.
Be that as it may: So much direct communication is new among the members of the Southwest District Office, which often acted like a wagon train. This is how the social medium, which is often bashed, produces good things – if action is taken.
