The volume “Judo Club Samurai Lecco – History and origins of the company in the fiftieth anniversary” was presented this afternoon, Friday 29 April, in the council chamber, created with the contribution of the Municipalities of Lecco and Olginate on the occasion of the important anniversary of the amateur club, founded in 1971.
The publication, of over three hundred pages, traces the history of judo in Lecco year after year: among the activities fielded by the association in the first fifty years of operation and the significant events, in addition to the numerous competitions and the great results of the athletes, including internships, events, twinning and collaborations with other companies in the area and beyond.
Ample space is also dedicated to the various disciplines practiced alongside Judo, such as karate and aikido, activities introduced in Lecco by the association in 1972 and 1996 respectively; among the other courses, immediately promoted by the Judo Club Samurai Lecco, there are personal defense and women’s gymnastics. The volume tells the story of martial arts in the Lombard capital from 1959 to the present day.
The presentation was attended by the Councilor for Education and Sport of the Municipality of Lecco Emanuele Torri, the Undersecretary with responsibility for Sport of the Lombardy Region Antonio Rossi, the director of the Canottieri Lecco company Lucia Micheli and the author of the volume, president and teacher of the association, Gerolamo Pirola.

As an Administration we are proud to have contributed to the creation of the book, which collects the material that the association has collected in fifty years of lively activity, thus giving life to a volume that will in fact be an important piece of the city’s history: this, in fact , in addition to being a sporting story, it is at the same time a significant story of education that has affected generations of young people. A heartfelt thanks to the President Gerolamo Pirola, whose enthusiasm and passion are contagious and have continued inexhaustible since 1977; together with him I like to remember and thank all the instructors and athletes who have contributed to building these first fifty years of history, full of satisfactions and achievements “.
