Wayne Rooney has announced who he would most like to see fill the vacant manager position at Manchester United. The person ultimately responsible for Derby County would rather see Maurico Pochettino come than Erik ten Hag.
The Argentinian and the Dutchman are together on pole position to take over from interim manager Ralf Rangnick after this season. In the Sky Sports studio, Rooney sheds light on the discussion. “Pochettino has already proven himself in the Premier League,” said the former midfielder-cum attacker. “He knows the competition and has let a lot of talent break through at Tottenham Hotspur. If I have to choose between Ten Hag and Pochettino, I choose Pochettino.”
Manchester United have had no fewer than eight managers in the past ten years. Rooney calms down when a successor to Rangnick is found. “I would give the successor time. Managers need time to leave their mark on the club. When the club management gives him the time, I am convinced that he will do well.”
