Arminia Bielefeld’s striker Klos is so badly injured that his trainer “shivers down his spine”. Striker Kalajdzic from opponent Stuttgart, the paramedics are too slow. He intervenes and receives a special round of applause.
IThe thoughts of the Bielefeld players and coach Frank Kramer were with their striker after the lucky point against VfB Stuttgart. “Everyone gets a shiver down their necks,” said Bielefeld’s goalscorer Florian Krüger about fellow attacker Fabian Klos, who was taken straight to the hospital after a violent collision shortly before the end of the game.
“It’s a very difficult situation for us and for the team,” said Kramer after the 1-1 (0-1) draw on Saturday. “It gives you chills down your spine. Of course you are shocked when you see something like that.”
Klos clashed violently with teammate Alessandro Schöpf and was treated longer on the pitch. Because it took so long for the paramedics to bring the stretcher, VfB attacker Sasa Kalajdzic ran towards them, took the transport device from them and sprinted to the injured opponent.
There was applause from the Bielefeld audience. Kramer also thanked the Stuttgarter. To Ur-Arminen Klos he said: “Pretty brutal, if you also know the history – the injury he had a few years ago. That’s pretty awesome.”
“Let’s hope he gets better soon”
Klos had already injured his head in 2013. On Saturday, the 34-year-old covered his face with his hands as he was carried off the field. “Let’s just hope that he’ll be fine soon, that he can be with us again soon, that he’s healthy,” said Kramer and added: “That’s the most important thing. That always comes first.” Stuttgart coach Pellegrino Matarazzo also wished Klos “all the best” at the press conference after the game.
The sporting events in the relegation duel faded into the background given the concern for Klos. Bielefeld missed an important win against their direct competitor and remains behind the Swabians in the table. Due to the lucky point they fought for after a deficit, Arminia climbed past Hertha BSC to the Bundesliga relegation zone.
In front of 26,011 spectators, Kalajdzic gave Stuttgart the lead in the 25th minute with a hand penalty. Krüger equalized in the 59th minute with his first Bundesliga goal.
