ring, ring! And then there was this: The plans for the cycle path from Berlin-Spandau via Wasserstadt, Gartenfeld Island, Tegel Airport and on to the main station are a bit more concrete.
“The variant preferred by the specialist planners is mostly (58 percent) with one- and two-way cycle paths along main roads,” said the office of Transport Senator Bettina Jarasch, Green. The Spandau newsletter from the Tagesspiegel reported on this in its latest issue: leute.tagesspiegel.de.
Length: 14.8 kilometers from Spandau towards City. Below you will find the course and here in higher resolution as a PDF file the entire study. It’s about the red line: the bike path will usually be 3 meters wide there.
It all starts in Wasserstadt: “With the high-speed cycle connection, motor vehicle traffic will only be on one lane in each direction. In the event of an accident, emergency vehicles can use the cycle paths designed for this purpose. In addition, the planning takes into account that a tram route in a likely middle position may be designated in this area,” says the study on the Wasserstadtbrücke. The parking spaces on the bridge are therefore eliminated.

And for Daumstrasse, the study says: “The median, which has previously been used as a parking area, will be greened.” In the long term, a tram will also run there. Here I show you my story about the traffic problems and photos on site in the Tagesspiegel.
The cycle path then turns over the – still missing and controversial – bridge to the 2.4 billion district Gartenfeld, rolls past Spandau’s new and largest school (1400 young people), rolls over the Tegel Bridge, which is currently being rebuilt (below runs along the Copenhagen Cycle Paths) and rolls on to the campus at Tegel Airport. There the bike path joins the bike expressway from Reinickendorf.
As reported, apartments for thousands of people are being built here in the north of the Spandau district – but so far only the bus has been going there. Only the island of Gartenfeld (3700 apartments) and the Siemens campus (2800 apartments) will be developed with the new S-Bahn line S6 of the Siemensbahn. Here are the latest plans in the Tagesspiegel and the ideas for extending them to Hakenfelde and Wasserstadt. The tram will not run there before 2032 either.

The costs for the Spandau bicycle section are around 1.4 million euros per kilometer, i.e. a total of 7 million euros. Important: A schedule is not mentioned in the document.
