Student sport in the spotlight in Abitibi-Témiscamingue

Several provincial and regional school championships took place this weekend.

Badminton

Badminton was honored with the Provincial School Championship (CPS), which was held in Pierrefonds in Montreal.

Mathéo Huard and Thomas Huard of D’Iberville school won the silver medal in men’s doubles in the youngest category. They lost in the final against the representatives of Montérégie.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue finished 6th in the youngest category, 11th in the cadet category and 10th in the juvenile category. In the total points ranking, out of 12 regions, Abitibi-Témiscamingue finished 10th.

Futsal

The futsal CPS allowed three teams from La Source school in Rouyn-Noranda to represent the region. The youngest was held in Trois-Rivière, while the youngest was held in Rimouski. The junior women’s team finished with a 2-2 record, the junior men’s team with a 1-3 record and the junior women’s team with a 1-3 record as well.

Basketball

Directly in the region, the Regional School Basketball Championship (CRS) was held last Saturday in Rouyn-Noranda. École Secondaire d’Amos won the championship in junior male and female. Instead, it was the teams from the D’Iberville school in Rouyn-Noranda that won the competitions in the female and male cadets as well as in the female and male juveniles. The winners of all these categories will represent the region on April 30 and May 1 at the Provincial School Championships.

  • Benjamin: Trois-Rivieres

  • Juvenile: Sherbrooke

Volleyball

Last Saturday, the volleyball CRS was held in Lorrainville and Notre-Dame-du-Nord. The winners will represent the region on May 7 and 8 at the Provincial School Championship.

École Marcel-Raymond won gold in the youngest male category, while D’Iberville won silver. Both teams will be able to represent the region at the Provincial School Championship.

The D’Iberville school, which won the championship in the youngest female category, will represent the region at the CPS in Trois-Rivières.

In female cadet, Marcel-Raymond C1 won gold, while Marcel-Raymond C2 won the silver medal. These two teams will represent the region at CPS Rimouski. As a male cadet, a team from École Marcel-Raymond will also take part in the provincial event.

In men’s youth, École Marcel-Raymond won the gold medal and will represent Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Sept-Îles. In female youth, D’Iberville school won the competition, followed by Marcel-Raymond school for the silver medal. Both teams will also participate in the CPS of Sept-Îles.
