Away from the courts for nearly nine months, Roger Federer continues to fall in the ATP rankings.
Roger Federer is starting to strongly resent his nine months away from the tennis courts. The Miami Masters 1000 has indeed had a definite influence on the place of Basel in the planetary hierarchy.
Last year, when he had already skipped the tournament in Florida, the Maestro had benefited from the gradual thawing of the ATP rankings after a year 2020 disrupted by the coronavirus. He had thus kept half of the points, namely 500, obtained in 2019 following his title in Miami.
Points that the winner of 20 Grand Slam titles had to give up last week. The 40-year-old Swiss, absent from the circuit since his quarter-final lost at Wimbledon in July 2021, has therefore lost 18 ranks in the new ranking published on Monday and is now in 44th position in the world (with 1,120 units).
This is the first time since June 5… 2000 (!) that Roger Federer has left the top 40. At that time, when he was only 18 years old, he was 54th.
