Iga Swiatek got the “Sunshine Double” with her tournament victory at the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami on Saturday and is thus the youngest player to win the two WTA 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. The 20-year-old Pole clearly prevailed 6-4 6-0 in the final against former number one, Naomi Osaka from Japan. Swiatek will take the lead in the world rankings on Monday.

The 20-year-old was the first player since Victoria Azarenka (BLR) to win the “Sunshine Double” six years ago. For Osaka, it was the first final on the WTA tour since winning the Australian Open more than a year ago. By beating Osaka in the final, Swiatek celebrated her 17th win in a row and didn’t lose a set in Miami.
After the resignation of Ashleigh Barty from Australia, the Pole will also take the lead in the world rankings on Monday. Osaka is climbing steeply again in the WTA ranking. After the early exit at the Australian Open as the defending champion in round three, she was passed in 85th place, before Miami she was in 77th place. From Monday she will be in 36th place.
