After the competitive and organizational success achieved by the Puerto Rico Archery Federation in the “Puerto Rico Archery Cup”, the president of the organization met with the Department of High Performance (DAR) of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee to shape participation in upcoming international events.

The president of the Federation, Jean Pizarro, confirmed that he spoke with the director of the DAR, Fernando Olivero Lora, to coordinate the plans en route to the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.

“It was a very good meeting where we presented our proposal to the DAR and they did the same, in addition to approving what was presented,” said Pizarro.

The department directed by Olivero Lora will be supporting the participation of four archers in the first three stages of the World Cup organized by the World Archery Federation. “We will be participating with four goalkeepers in the first stages of the World Cup in Turkey, Korea and France, then we will go with a full delegation to the final stage in Colombia,” said the federative leader.

The gold medalist in the men’s recurve bow of the Puerto Rico Archery Cup, Adrián Muñoz, will participate in all the events, as well as Paola Ramírez, Bryan Alvarado and Jean Pizarro in compound bow.

The first stage of the World Cup in Turkey will take place from April 16 to 24. While the events in Korea and France will be in May and June, respectively.

For the final stage in Medellin, Colombia, in July, the DAR will support the federation to participate with a large delegation in recurve and compound in both branches, this being the first competitive test of the potential selection to the Central American Games and from the Caribbean.

During the meeting, the DAR informed that it will support the Federation with a physiotherapist on each trip.

The last international Archery event of 2022 will be the qualifier for the Pan American Games in Chile to be held on Chilean soil in November.

During the Puerto Rico Archery Cup that ended on March 20, the national archers won four medals: one gold, two silver and one bronze. The gold went to Adrián Muñoz in recurve. In this modality, Muñoz was part of the two team silver medals with Ángel González and Joanick Acevedo and in mixed with Alondra Rivera. The bronze was achieved by Jean Pizarro in the elimination phase.
