The Soria Basketball Club achieved two wins in the four games that the teams from its lower sections played in the opening of the second phase of the Second Division Autonomous Championships of the different categories. Cadete A defeated Tizona B from Burgos 73-59 and Junior A also started with a victory, beating the same rival 91-55. The two women’s teams suffered worse luck: Cadete lost 37-84 to BFB Famavi from Burgos and Infantil was beaten by BFB Gambafresh, also from Burgos, 33-70. The clash that Infantil A was supposed to play against Tormes de Salamanca was finally postponed. These five are the Soria Basketball Club teams that are fighting to access the Castilla y León Cup, something that will be achieved by the champion of each group – made up of four teams – and the first two in the junior category.
Cadet A controlled at all times a tough rival against whom he always plays very tough games (40-37 at halftime). This victory is an important step forward for the 2006 generation, who, if they want to access the Castilla y León Cup, will have to overcome two other equally difficult matches against two Leonese teams: Palanquinos de Villacelama and Colegio Leonés B. Junior A had suffered two consecutive stumbles to finish the regular season -the last inconsequential-, but they recovered in time and beat Tizona B with great ease. At the break they won 54-17, which shows their solid game and, above all, their offensive efficiency during the first half. The Sorianos relaxed in the second period and will fight for the Cup -the first two qualify- with Iveco Real Valladolid Baloncesto B and San Agustín, also from Pucelano.
The Women’s Cadet played a very good first half (23-34) against a team to which they had lost twice this year and stayed in the game despite problems in defensive rebounding. But, after the break, the sorianas lost their focus, lost many balls in the pressure release and conceded easy baskets. The Children’s Women ran into a rival who hasn’t lost since they did it in Soria on the opening day of the season, who is physically superior and who has good individuals. It was difficult for Club Soria Baloncesto to score, although the players showed a great attitude during the 40 minutes.
Infantil A, also qualified to fight for the Cup, did not play their home game against Tormes de Salamanca, waiting for their rivals to be definitively confirmed. Two other Club Soria Basketball teams (Júnior B and Cadete B) are still in contention in this second phase -with no chance of fighting for the Castilla y León Cup- with the aim of finishing the season in the best possible position. Junior B defeated Juventud Aranda 60-62 on Sunday in a very even match, which opted for the visiting side with a three-pointer at the buzzer that signaled the end of the second overtime. And Cadet B was blunt before the opposite ring and lost to Juventud Arquiplus by 67-43. At the end of the third quarter, the Sorianos only fell 44-36, but the last ten minutes were disastrous.
