With its elite tournament, the Yonex open in the Cholet area, the Badminton associatif choletais (Bach) quite simply offers the best endowed elite tournament in France. After a first edition postponed to early July 2021 due to the health crisis, the second edition of the Cholet tournament will take place this Saturday April 9, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Salle Auguste Grégoire.
“The tournament returns to its original place on the calendar, which is fixed on the international calendar, to avoid being in competition with other competitions, indicates JeanClaude Arnou, president of Bach. Thus, we are sure to have beautiful players.“Among them, it includes, of course, the pillars of the first team: Martin Ouazzen, defending champion in singles, Samy Corvée, Fanny Arnou but also Xu Wei, since it is an international tournament. We will not welcome players from abroad but we may receive foreign players who have already come to play in Cholet in the Top 12” underlines the president. Among the latter, the Cholet public will unfortunately not be able to see Elias Bracke and Gayle Mahulette play, the two residents of Bach being registered in Olympic qualifying tournaments.
High level
“This elite tournament is the logical next step for us, continues Jean-Claude Arnou. Playing in the elite also means organizing an elite competition. It is a tournament that earns points at the national level. We will have Top 5 and 10 French players. The main objective is to offer a high level in Cholet, to reward our public for their loyalty and, at the same time, to allow our players to play at home.“With this tournament, the Bach pursues its desire to offer the best in badminton at the regional level, becoming more than ever the best representative of the discipline in the Pays de la Loire.
Programme
130 to 140 badminton players are expected in the five tables: men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed. This Saturday, the singles and mixed doubles finals will be played from 6 p.m. On Sunday, the doubles finals are expected around 3 p.m.

Recruitment has started
While the Top 12 season is not over yet, Jean-Claude Arnou is already recruiting for the next one. Objective: to overcome the – rare – weaknesses encountered this year. Always in the uncertainty of being able to count again on his English pair Towler-Westwood, the president of Bach wants to find an infallible double men. Likewise, Léa Palermo’s injury highlighted the need for a joker on that side as well. This recruitment should not only concern the first team, since that of N3 will play the N2 play-offs – Bach is also a candidate to welcome them. Its president therefore wants players capable of playing in N2 and, why not, doing some freelancing in the Top 12.
