After a long wait, the Basque Government has designated June 11 for the exam to obtain a hunting license in Euskadi. The test will be carried out in a single territory, this time Gipuzkoa, specifically the Ficoba facilities in Irun. The many interested in signing up for the test have until May 25. To formalize your registration, you must fill out the application form and pay the fee corresponding to the exam through the website of the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment of the Basque Government. Spanish Cup of hunting tours
The best Basque shooters travel this weekend to Sos del Rey Católico to compete in the XV Spanish Cup of hunting tours, convened at the Calderón shooting club in the town of Zaragoza. In the last edition, held in Ciguñuela (Valladolid), 240 fencers competed and the victory corresponded to Juan Valero in the general. Among the women, Beatriz Laparra prevailed. Within the Gipuzkoan representation, the performances of Francisco Javier Portuburu stood out, who won the Cup in the veteran category, and the shooter from Ur Ollo de Zestoa Igor Alkorta, who did the same in the Handy Sport category.
Gipuzkoa’s best asset for this edition is Igor Larrea, from Txoritegi de Segura, in great shape at the start of the season.
African swine fever
Several entities from the hunting and livestock sectors, together with experts in swine health and wild boar population and health management, have launched the Operational Group for Prevention of African swine fever. It is a project that tries to prepare and train the pig farming sector and the hunting sector against African swine fever. To achieve its objectives, it will try to contribute to an effective management strategy for wild boar populations in Spain, since this wild boar represents one of the main threats for the transmission and maintenance of the disease. Its current density is much higher than desired.
Concentration in front of the Ministry
Directors and representatives of the hunting federations, together with numerous hunters, met this Thursday in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to demand the end of the Government’s anti-hunting policies and the resignation of the minister Theresa Rivera. This call for hunters and managers has been forged as a result of the new attack that is to be perpetrated against hunting with the declaration of the quail as an “endangered species” in the flora and fauna committee that will take place in Madrid this Friday.

Those interested in the bowhunting courses scheduled by the Guipuzcoan Federation on May 7 and 8 at the Arkale Hunting School have a deadline to register until Monday, April 25, in the case of classes for the Obtaining the qualified level archer card (T2) and until Friday 29th in the case of the bowhunting aptitude test in Gipuzkoa (Tcaza).
Basic sport shooting course
There are still places available for the basic sports shooting course to be taught by Marcelo Clavero under the organization of the Guipuzcoan Federation at the Arkale Hunting School (Oiartzun), on the weekend of May 21 and 22.
The title of Euskadi of salmonids lance, at stake in the Leizaran
Reserves I and II of the Leizaran River host this weekend the Euskadi Salmonid Lance Championship, in which the fishermen classified in the territorial competitions compete. The test, to be developed in two days, includes eight sleeves that will determine the new regional champion. The title is defended by José Luis Urkola, from Tolosako Arrantzaleak, who will have as great rivals José Luis Cendoya, winner in 2020, Iñaki Alonso, winner in 2019, and Denis Soriano, champion in 2018. Together with them, the former state champion will have to be closely followed David Marcos. The competition schedule will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. The concentration of participants is set for 06.30 in the Urto car park.
The 2022 Euskadi Youth Fly Salmon Championship will be held on the same stage this Saturday. The participants are summoned at 7:30 in the Urto parking lot.
Outside our territory, the Balearic Fishing Federation is organizing this weekend in Santa Eulalia (Ibiza) the IV Spanish Championship from an anchored boat for regional teams, reserved for the masters category and qualifying for the World Championship. Among the representatives of Euskadi are three “high-level” fishermen: Ángel Fernández, Juan Francisco Juanico and Juan Carlos Rodríguez.
