Growth promoted by “NPB12 Team Junior Tournament”
In the youth baseball area of each region, one or two players already have outstanding players. Such talented people gather at the “NPB12 Baseball Team Junior Tournament” held every year at the end of the year. In the elementary school generation, the top-level stage is a rival where not only the opponent team but also teammates compete for regularity. The fierce environment further encourages the growth of promising players.
At the tournament at the end of last year, “Chunichi Dragons Junior,” consisting of Tokai players, won the championship for the first time in four years. A total of 18 home runs and smashing hits by the most teams in the tournament exploded. The players who became first graders in junior high school this spring, including Soya Kokubo, who shot an oversized bullet with an estimated flight distance of 120 meters in the middle of the stand at Jingu Stadium, were all talented.
Although individual abilities stand out, baseball is a group sport to the last. Former Chunichi infielder Masataka Minatogawa, who has been teaching Chunichi Junior for seven years, said, “Become a player who is pleased with people’s play” is consistent about the basis of team building.
