According to what Reuters reported on Thursday, the two players proceeded in this direction; those concerned had until Wednesday to comply. On the other hand, this procedure does not mean an automatic confirmation on the part of the men concerned. If they decide to challenge the greens, they will at the very least have their place acquired.

Moreover, they are among the 48 golfers – including the winners of the last 12 Opens of the United States – benefiting from an exemption which allows them to find themselves among the participants. The other players – more than 9,000 in total – will try to qualify through local tournaments.

A three-time winner of the event, Woods returned to action last week at the Masters Tournament, where he finished 47th with a cumulative 301 (+13). It was his first official presence on the PGA Tour since his serious road accident in February 2021.

For his part, Mickelson has never won the US Open. By winning the PGA Championship last year, the 51-year-old veteran secured a five-year exemption from the tournament. He hasn’t played on the professional circuit since January, after his controversial remarks about the creation of a Saudi-funded super league emerged.
