The 12e edition of the famous transatlantic is enjoying unprecedented success in ocean racing.

The names of the first 120 registered for the next Route du Rhum (starting on Sunday November 6) were officially announced by the race organizers (OC Sport Pen Duick) this Wednesday morning. The prestigious names jostle (Le Cléac’h, Coville, Caudrelier, Joyon) and François Gabart, entangled in a technical and legal imbroglio with the Ultim class on the conformity of his boat, is also part of it. It remains to be seen whether the SVR Lazartigue trimaran will be authorized to cast off in Saint-Malo towards Pointe-à-Pitre. Its skipper has until October 6 to present his measurement certificate and definitively validate his registration.

OC Sport Pen Duick has also announced that 18 sailors will benefit from a wild card, for a total of 138 potential participants. “A record figure for a solo race which would make the event a little more historic. explains Hervé Favre, President of OCSPD. Among the known guests between now and the end of April will undoubtedly be Yannick Bestaven, winner of the last Vendée Globe and whose new monohull will soon be launched. By way of comparison, there were “only” 123 boats at the start of the Route du Rhum 2018. Six categories will be represented during this 12th edition: the Ultim maxi-trimarans (6 registered for the moment), the Ocean Fifty ( 8), Imoca monohulls (27), Class 40s (55), Rhum Mono (12) and Multi Rhum (12).
