[UFC273]New McGregor-Ian Garry ─ 01─ “I quit college and JUMP IN to MMA” | MMAPLANET

[Photo]I could understand well that Ian Garry-Irish MMA fighter who speaks in a boyish tone, in contrast to the sharp blow, does not just follow the McGregor style (C) MMAPLANET.

UFC273 will be held at the Vista Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, 9th (local time).

UFC World Featherweight Championship Match = Champion Alex Volkanovski ✖ Challenger John Chanson, UFC World Bantamweight Championship Unification Battle = Regular Champion Aljamain Sterling ✖ Interim Champion Pyotr Yang・ Dulinho ✖ Ian Garry, nicknamed Future, will participate in the preliminary match of this tournament, which has a noteworthy card called Khamzat Chimaev, and will face the second UFC match against Darian Weeks.

Born in November 1997, the 24-year-old started Ama MMA at the age of 19 and reached the highest peak in five years. First interview with Ian Garry, the future of MMA that may even lead the world’s MMA, Irish MMA after Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor, Bellator’s James Gallagher, who copied the trick, and the Irish MMA up-and-coming ── had the opposite sensibility in the inner world full of longing for McGregor.

――Before the pandemic, MMA competitions in Europe were mostly overlooked in Japan, even if there was streaming because the start time was 2 or 3 o’clock at midnight and the end time coincided with the start of the UFC. That was the corona sickness, and MMAs from all over the world were suspended, and not many promotions resumed with no audience. From that time on, I tried to watch Cage Warriors as much as possible, but I saw it there-Ian was a very lively player. He became a welterweight champion in the seventh race and reached the pinnacle of the world in a blink of an eye with his UFC debut in his eighth race.

“Oh, Cage Warriors is being broadcast in Japan at midnight. No, I’m glad you watched my game. Thank you very much.”

──No, it’s fun to see young players coming out of the feeder show. By the way, Ireland is now one of MMA’s powerhouses, but what made Ian start MMA?

“I was interested in MMA because of Conor (McGregor). I’ve been following his success and success, and I’ve been crazy about the game. And I want to do MMA too.” I was a college student at the time, but I decided to quit school and become an MMA fighter. I wanted to be in this sport.

When I was watching Connor, I started to wonder what I was doing in college. Then, “I can’t do this. I don’t want to stay here anymore. ” Then I jumped in to the gym (laughs).

Now I can learn the really beautiful battles I was watching on TV. I started on the same path as Connor-it made me feel great. I really enjoyed the practice. “

── Did you quit college?

“That’s right. I decided myself. I quit school without consulting my father or mother.”

──OMG!!

“I was able to sign the UFC four to five years after I started going to the gym. My UFC debut was the MSG, and I was able to compete in the second PPV tournament. It’s a fun life.”

──Did you have any experience in martial arts by then?

“It’s judo !!”

──Well, is the base judo even though you have such a sharp hit?

“I was boxing. I was boxing from 10 to 14 and 15 years old-I started being taken by my dad, but what do you mean by hitting people and hitting yourself?” I was starting to think that there was something. I had a swollen face. At that time, I met Judo. Even when I saw it, Judo was squid. “

──Is Judo cool?

“That’s right. It was a lot cooler than doing my homework at home after school. I soon started going to the judo hall three or four times a week. I learned martial arts because I was learning judo. I learned the discipline and respect that are essential to me. It’s been alive since I started MMA. I was able to practice at the Irish Club, the best judo club in Ireland … Black at the age of 18. It became a band. Among the members who practiced, the top ones went to Japan to practice.

I also wanted to practice in Japan with them, but that didn’t happen. I didn’t have the power to match it. My friends who went to Japan and practiced were at the level of aiming for the Olympics. Besides, no matter how hard I tried judo, there were few things that came back. I’ve never fought in an international tournament, and at best I’ve been on an expedition to England. Still, I loved playing judo games. It’s the same as doing MMA right now and feeling great.

However, I wasn’t in a judo match for a long time. After becoming a black belt, I made my debut in amateur MMA the following year. But for me, a judoka who plays an active part in the Olympics is a true genius. The feelings I learned from doing such judo are irreplaceable.

Right now I’m focusing on MMA, but it’s time to retire from the front line with MMA. At that time, I would like to practice judo again and play a match in Japan. I also want to continue Jiu-Jitsu, and maybe I’ll be playing Judo or Jiu-Jitsu games in Japan. “

──We will definitely show you around the Kodokan.

“Oh, thank you. I’m really looking forward to that day. It would be a great experience if I could practice at the Kodokan (laughs). I think that the inner nature of human beings who could wear it in judo is very useful. “

──However, I think that what Conor McGregor showed inside and outside the cage is the exact opposite of discipline and respect.

“That’s right (laughs)”
