The nine universities of Castilla y León dispute ten sports disciplines in search of the champion that succeeds the University of Valladolid, the last winner before the pandemic
After two long fallow years due to covid-19, the university sports festival par excellence in Castilla y León, the Rector of Universities Trophy returns to the fore with the dispute of the twenty-seventh edition organized by the Sports Service of the University of Valladolid.
More than 900 athletes belonging to the nine public and private universities located in Castilla y León (UVa, ULe, UBu, Usal, Pontificia de Salamanca, UEMC, IE University, Isabel I and UCAV) will search in ten sports disciplines (chess, badminton, basketball, handball, futsal, soccer, paddle tennis, tennis, table tennis and volleyball) the different titles at stake as well as the global one by universities in search of succeeding the last champion, this year’s host, University of Valladolid, who won just before the pandemic in Burgos in 2019.
The sports facilities of Fuente de la Mora on the Carretera de Renedo, nerve center of these championships, together with the Río Esgueva sports center, the Canterac and Club Raqueta facilities, will dress up to host the Castilla y León university sports festival for give culmination to the different guiding trophies between faculties, university schools and university residences that have been celebrated together with the district phases in each university.
The Uva Sports Service has everything ready to experience the return of normality to university sports. Two days with more than 100 matches scheduled in an event with the label of a sustainable event thanks to the collaboration of Aquavall, which will eliminate plastic bottles by providing each participant with a personalized stainless steel bottle to also add value to tap water.
With the sponsorship of the Junta de Castilla y León and the collaboration of the Valladolid City Council, the university sports festival in which the faculties that represent and wear the colors of each university come to life, will have as a novelty the show organized for the 900 participants on Friday night with the monologue of the Valladolid humorist Sergio Encinas at 11:00 p.m. in the Millennium Dome.
The competition can be followed by streaming on the Uva YouTube channel, with the award ceremony set for Saturday the 2nd at 4:30 p.m. with the presence of the Rector of the Uva.
It should be noted that sport at the University plays, year after year, year after year, a very important role among students, as evidenced by the fact that between 30 and 40% of students enrolled in universities take part in one of the sports activities organized by its Sports Service.
Thus, at the University of Valladolid, host this year, the percentage of participation among its four campuses in Valladolid, Soria, Segovia and Palencia, exceeded 38% before the pandemic, or 7,879 students (4,220 boys and 3,659 girls). ) of the 20,496 registered, practiced sports with the Rector Trophy acting as the main engine. Once approaching the desired normality, the sport comes back to life in the different faculties and university schools.
