2th appointment with Nicolas Chansseaume50 years, 5th Dan Judo, 44 years of practice, Isérois.

Nicolas started judo at the age of 6 in the Judo section of the ASM in the sports complex of La Gauthière. He lived right across from the club. ” I remember that day very well. At first my father wanted to enroll me in wrestling but in the end it was judo that I started”, says Nicholas.

Christelle Vialis, communication referent in the judo section, interviewed Nicolas Chansseaume, now sports director of the Alliance Grésivaudan Judo club in Isère.

Can you describe your career at ASM?

Nicolas : My encounter with judo was with my first two teachers. Michel Pegart, for my first season, then Jean Saurat throughout my early childhood. Jeannot allowed me to blossom and literally fall in love with this martial art. His paternalistic side will echo on me. I also remember the pleasure of making friends during his lessons.

Which teacher influenced you the most?

The real shock for me was my encounter with Lionel Langlais (see photo). Lionel arrived in Auvergne as a regional technical manager. He was also a professor at the ASM. We were a few very motivated by judo and competition, to have adhered to his teaching and his very Japanese work. Lionel Langlais had spent two years in the prestigious “Seiki Juku” school of Isao Okano in Japan, certainly one of the greatest judokas and teachers in the world.

When Lionel left ASM for new adventures as DTN in Canada, I then took the direction of Grenoble. I integrated the sport-studies judowhere a new adventure begins for me with new coaches (Lionel Gaillat, Jean-Marie Demelas, Jean Pierre Million).

You told us about your friends at ASM, can you tell us a bit more?

With Philippe Vialis, Yann Barbotin, Olivier Bonnet and myself, we were judo buffs. We received and acquired a extensive technical training of a rare quality at ASM. I became aware of this much later when I took the path of teaching myself.

With this group of friends from the ASM club, we achieved the feat of finishing at the 3th place in the French Cadet Championship by club teams in 1988. The ASM team was made up of Bruyère (-55kg), myself (-60kg), Bonnet (-66kg), Vialis (-73kg) and Barbotin (+73kg).

In parallel with judo, what training did you follow?

During all these years in judo sport-studies, I trained in STAPS, BE 1is judo degree, BE of fitness professions and BE 2th judo degree, as well as in mental preparation (certification).

I very quickly felt the need to pass on what I had learned in judo. Becoming a judo teacher was a real choice, a passion, a very strong life goal, who hasn’t let me go since. I took advantage of an opportunity near Grenoble, in Grésivaudan, to settle there permanently.

What are you doing today ?

In 1997I created the club Alliance Grésivaudan Judo (AGJ)” in the small town of Bernin. I am still there today, still at the head of the technical department. Everything had to be built. I started with one of the smallest dojos in France on the first floor of a village house. The carpet, from wall to wall, was 5.50m wide and 16m long. It was years of pleasure, since they let me put in place what I wanted at the educational and sporting level.

Today, we have a beautiful Dojo of more than 300 m² in a quality infrastructure facing the mountains and ski resorts. I don’t have certainties but I have a conviction: judo teacher, it’s the best job!

I grew up with the club and my various encounters: leaders, parents, students, athletes. During my 5 internships in japanin Tenri, Meiji, Waseda, Stukuba, Kodokan, I learned a lot as a judoka but also as a teacher.

Can you tell us a bit more about your club “Alliance Grésivaudan Judo”?

To date, the club has more than 550 licensees and is part of one of the biggest clubs in the AURA Judo League.

We are present in all age categories in competitions: youngest, minimal, cadets, juniors and seniors. In recent years, the club has had some good results with several judokas who are currently international:

  • Cédric REVOL (Champion of France Seniors 1time division in -60kg & member of the French team)
  • Nicolas LOIODICE (International, selected for the European Cadets Championship & member of the national collective at INSEP)
  • Morgane ANNIS and Eliot PREVE (both selected for the Cadet(te)s European Championship & members of the French team)

And the icing on the cake, the title of ” French Junior Champion by club teams” obtained in 2016 in Paris, with young people trained only at the club.

A nod to the ASM club with this title which reminds me of our achievement in 1988 in the same age category of Cadets.

Do you want to tell us anything else?

So I never left the world of judo. On the contrary, I am found every weekend around the tatamis of the AURA league, and elsewhere.

I often meet ASM judokas, especially you, Christelle, who officiates as a referee in our region and throughout France.

Even if everyone goes their own way, I always enjoy meeting former judokas from Auvergne and more specifically those from the ASM, whose some have become friends.

What does ASM’s 110th anniversary mean to you?

The 110 years of the ASM evoke a » impressive longevity ! My congratulations to the ASM Omnisports for its 110 years and good continuation to the section judo from l’ASM !

For Nicolas, the ASM club is, he specifies: my childhood, judo and my family with all the memories that come back to me from that time. »
