Win, Citizens Again Top the Standings

Manchester City back to the top of the standings Premier League. 2-0 win over Burnley bring The Citizens overtake Liverpool.

Manchester City travels to Burnley at Turf Moor, Saturday (2/4/2022) evening WIB in the Premier League. The visitors played very dominant and already took the lead through Kevin de Bruyne in the fifth minute.

Ilkay Gundogan doubled the score in the 25th minute. The dominance of Man City resulted in other opportunities, but failed to be completed by Pep Guardiola’s foster children.

The 2-0 score lasted until the game was over and that was enough to ensure Man City returned to the top of the Premier League standings. De Bruyne et al collected 73 points from 30 matches, one point ahead of Liverpool.

Burnley are stuck at number 19 with 21 points from 28 matches.

The course of the match

Manchester City started the match and Burnley immediately threatened in the third minute. Aaron Lennon crossed from the right and was found by Josh Brownhill, but the ball ended wide of goal.

GOAL! Man City responded decisively. Rodri played a diagonal pass to Raheem Sterling on the right, which the winger passed to Kevin de Bruyne in the middle. De Bruyne finished it in the net.

Another attack was built by Man City neatly in the eighth minute. Sterling pushed down the right, passed to Phil Foden and the ball passed to De Bruyne. De Bruyne crossed to Rodri and finished with a first-time shot which was only kept out by Nick Pope.

Another attempt from Rodri two minutes later, this time the ball slid to the side of the goal.

GOAL! Man City doubled the score in the 25th minute. Sterling played a one-two with De Bruyne on the right, followed by a draw for Ilkay Gundogan. The ball hit the Burnley players and outwit Pope.

The visitors controlled the game very well, making it difficult for Burnley to develop the game.

Man City had a good chance in the 41st minute. Foden latched on to the back of the Burnley line and Sterling was free. But his shot was not perfect and bounced.

Burnley almost made an own goal three minutes after the restart. Joao Cancelo’s cross hit James Tarkowski and into the net, but Pope was quick to save the ball.

A minute later, Man City launched another attack. De Bruyne’s pass was snatched by Guendogan, Pope again moving quickly to secure the goal, this time brushing the ball away.

Burnley almost made a goal in the 59th minute. Maxwell Cornet’s header beat Ederson Moraes but Nathan Ake cleared the ball before it crossed the line!

A similar scheme to the two goals created was launched by Man City in the 69th minute. Sterling released a pass that Gabriel Jesus caught, but the ball rolled across the side of the net.

An error from Jack Grealish made the ball snatched by Burnley in the 75th minute. Jay Rodriguez had the ball, cut into the middle and shot from the front of the box. Ederson can still hold the ball.

Barely! Man City almost added a goal in the 80th minute. Bernardo Silva’s cross was received by Jesus and finished with a low shot, but hit the post! The bounce ball was hit again, but it went wide!

Another opportunity was also wide in the 84th minute, from Sterling’s kick. Burnley then threw away a good chance three minutes later, when Cornet failed to clear the ball from Ashley Barnes.

There were no more goals in the remaining time. Burnley 0-2 Manchester City.
