World Cup draw: Germany meets Spain, Japan and Costa Rica or New Zealand

The preliminary round groups for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar have been determined! Germany will meet Spain, among others, and Switzerland will challenge Brazil.

Germany will meet Spain, Japan and the winner of the playoff between Costa Rica and New Zealand in Group E at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. That was the result of the draw on Friday evening in Doha.

Qatar, Netherlands, Senegal, Ecuador

Group B

England, USA, Iran, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine

Group C

Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Saudi Arabia

Group D

France, Denmark, Tunisia, Peru/United Arab Emirates/Australia

Group E

Spain, Germany, Japan, Costa Rica/New Zealand

Group F

Belgium, Croatia, Morocco, Canada

Group G

Brazil, Switzerland, Serbia, Cameroon

Group H

Portugal, Uruguay, South Korea, Ghana

Hosts Qatar also face the Netherlands, while holders France meet Denmark, Tunisia and the winner of the play-off between Peru and Australia or the United Arab Emirates.

The 2022 World Cup begins on November 21 with the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador. The final then rises just before Christmas and is scheduled for December 18th.

Germany had qualified for the World Cup as the winner of the European qualifying group J. The lead of the DFB team over second-placed North Macedonia was nine points.
