Dr. Leonel Fernández, president of the People’s Force, swore in on Wednesday a second wave of athletes, including sports immortals, national glories, coaches, technicians, leaders, sports writers, promoters of sports, of different sports, among others , in an activity held at the National House “Johnny Ventura” of the People’s Force, in Benito Monción.
Among the sworn in were the immortals of Sport, Ricardo-Gioriver-Arias, Iván Tejada, in Tae Kwon Do, the glory of baseball, Doña Norma Díaz, Pupo Brito, Yhency Brazoban, Melkys Valdez, former world champion Félix-Mangu-Valera, the Pan American medalist in Santo Domingo 2003, Ubaldo Cabrera and the Weightlifting medalist, Santa Santana.
Also Miyuli Frías, volleyball coach, Emil Ferreras, volleyball, Mirian García, former Queens of the Caribbean, former world boxing champion, Dahiana Santana, Oscar Sosa, Martial Arts champion, Denny Vargas, first captain of the Soccer Team and Claribel Mena, Boxing, among other great athletes.
It is recalled that in June of last year, Fernández swore in hundreds of athletes, including the immortals of Sport, Amaury Cordero, in weights, Tito Horford, in basketball, Tony Batista, in baseball, Leo Cruz, immortal in boxing, Víctor Hansen, Víctor Chacón, Matilde Guerrero, immortal in women’s basketball and a large group of athletes nationwide.
Former President Fernández proclaimed that the People’s Force and the Dominican Republic have become a “true global sports power,” with this second swearing-in of another large group of athletes from all sports who come to the organization.
“Here we have great sports immortals, former world boxing champions, players who gave great brilliance to the country in the Major Leagues and in the country and athletes of judo, soccer, volleyball, taekwondo, martial arts, weightlifting, motor speed , among others,” said Fernandez.
The words of welcome were pronounced by the titular member of the Sports Secretariat of the People’s Force, the former Minister of Sports (2004-2012), Felipe-Jay-Payano, who assured that, from now on, he can assure that “the People’s Force Pueblo is the main sports machinery of the Dominican Republic”.
In his words, he exclaimed that the “social and human part” of all Dominican athletes, again, will be guaranteed in the next government headed by President Leonel Fernández from the year 2024.
