Basketball Bundesliga club Brose Bamberg has prematurely extended the contract with head coach Oren Amiel until the end of the 2023/2024 season. The nine-time German champions announced this on Thursday evening. The 50-year-old Israeli had already signed his new contract in February. The Franconians meet Alba Berlin at the start of the championship playoffs this Friday.
“His honest manner, his emotions on the sidelines and the respect for Bamberg’s basketball history offer every fan outstanding potential for identification. That’s why we decided in February to extend his contract ahead of time so that we can plan the new season with him early on,” said managing director Philipp Galewski.
Amiel took over the post from Johan Roijakkers at the beginning of December 2021. Previously, he was active as a head coach in Israel and the Czech Republic. “I am very happy that I can continue to be the head coach of such a traditional club. I think we’ve brought the fun of basketball back to Bamberg in the last few months and we’ve formed a unit between the team and the fans,” said Amiel.
