Catherine Raîche would get closer to her dream

Everything indicates that Montrealer Catherine Raîche is taking another step towards her dream of one day becoming general manager of a team in the NFL.

Raîche is reportedly set to join the Cleveland Browns in a role that remains to be confirmed, but which would amount to that of assistant to general manager Andrew Berry.

It’s ESPN and the daily USA Today who were the first to report the news, which however has not been confirmed by the Browns.

Proof that this new position would take him another step towards his ultimate goal, the former assistant to Berry in Cleveland, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, was named general manager of the Minnesota Vikings on January 26.

It’s a funny wink of fate since Raîche had just been interviewed for the job that Adofo-Mensah landed in Minnesota a few weeks earlier.

The Quebecer was already the woman who occupied the most senior position in the NFL within the football department of a team. Since last year, she had been promoted to the role of vice president of football operations at the Philadelphia Eagles.

Two years earlier, Raîche had joined the NFL as the Eagles’ football operations coordinator.

She evolved precisely under the orders of Andrew Berry until he became general manager of the Browns in 2020. The wheel turns with the Quebecer who returns with the one who had opened the doors of the circuit to her.

At only 33 years old, his progress in the world of football is impressive. Before the NFL, the law graduate from the University of Sherbrooke had learned her skills with the Alouettes from 2015 to 2017, then with the Toronto Argonauts the following two years. A brief stint with the Tampa Bay Vipers in the XFL preceded his big league debut.

With the Eagles, Raîche is involved at the “personnel level, including university and professional recruitment, in addition to contract management, player development and football research”, according to the team’s website.

To date, only one woman has held the role of general manager in the NFL, being Tose Spencer in 1983.
