The New York Rangers and Filip Chytil in the line-up defeated Carolina at home 4: 1 in the second round of the NHL playoffs and equalized the series to 2: 2. Edmonton approached the Western Conference finals, beating Calgary 5-3 and leading 3-1 in matches.
The forward was opened in New York by home striker Frank Vatrano from a power play and Adam Fox raised in the opening third. Rangers added a third goal in the 37th minute from the Mika Zibanejad goal. Goalkeeper Igor Šesťorkin, who covered thirty shots in the match, was surpassed only by Teuvo Teräväinen. Carolina’s striker reduced in time 46:33. A moment later, however, Andrew Copp calmed the home team with a fourth goal, who was declared the first star of the match with three points (1 + 2).
Edmonton led 3-0 after the first period. After just 21 seconds of play, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored into an empty goal after a bad pass by goalkeeper Jacob Markström. Zach Hyman increased the visitors’ lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right.
Calgary reduced the score in the middle of the match in 36 seconds by one goal by Elias Lindholm and Mikael Backlund. Rasmus Andersson came close to leveling the score 51 minutes into the game, as he was set up with a through ball coming in from the left, but his shot hit the post.
But the curious goal did not shake with the home team and in the time of 56:33 he decided from the Nugent-Hopkins finish. In the end, he sealed Kane’s win, with 12 goals as the top scorer of this year’s playoffs. Two Edmonton goals were scored by Connor McDavid, who scored 25 points (6 + 19) in the elimination part in eleven matches.
